Equity Toolkit -- Learning Commons Resources: Welcome & Login Information

On this guide, you'll find a selection of recent and relevant fiction & nonfiction books from our library collections to encourage conversations about racial and social justice, center marginalized voices, and celebrate diversity.

A crucial movement in literature is the #OwnVoices initiative, which refers to books with diverse characters whose authors share those identities.  Priority in this guide is given to #OwnVoices titles.  If you have a recommendation for purchase for our district's Learning Commons, please send suggestions our way. We welcome these!

Thanks to our partnership with the Scott County Library, students and staff have access to Libby, their platform for eBooks & Audiobooks.  Many titles have multiple copies (sometimes into the hundreds!) which opens up great possibilities for student and teacher book clubs and literature circles.  With voice and choice so important in building strong readers, students can select titles that provide a "window" into new perspectives or find "mirror" titles that reflect their own experiences.

Teachers can sign up for a Scott County Library Educator Access Card through the link at the bottom of this page to access eBooks & audiobooks on Libby.  Look below for information on how students and staff log in to MackinVIA and Libby.

If you are teaching or learning in the Shakopee Online program, visit this page to request library books and pick them up in the main office of the school where they are housed.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions!

Thank you,

Katie Bohn, Elementary District Media Specialist
