Dear Sociology of the Family students,

This guide includes book suggestions from our school's Learning Commons collections and the Libby digital collection from the Scott County Library for your independent reading project.  Just like people in real life, the books on these lists feature complex characters & themes, and often span more than one genre.  What they all have in common is a character that demonstrates resiliency in the face of adversity.

You may also find other wonderful titles by browsing Destiny Discover and Libby on your own.  Just reach out to Ms. Gilkison to make sure the book fits the assignment.

If you'd like a personalized suggestion for an eBook or audiobook, please fill out this form and I will email you some recommendations based on your interests.

Here are a few tips on using this guide:

  • Books are organized by topic tabs at the top of this guide. Hover over the "I" icon to see a description of the book.

  • If our school's physical copy is already checked out, you can also check out physical books from the Scott County Library with your Virtual Student Library Card.  You can search their catalog to see if the book is available and have books sent to the SCL branch closest to you.

Happy Reading!
