Prompting Tips

Who Are You? Setting / Audience Equity, Inclusion, & Relationships Demonstrating Emotion

Establish your role (i.e. physics teacher, health teacher, etc.)

List some details about your classes and how people will engage (in groups? independently? online? face-to-face?)

What are your learners like?

How will your prompt elicit responses that include:

  • diverse viewpoints?
  • inclusive language?
  • concepts of Developmental Designs?

Add to your prompt phrases like "This task is vital to my work" or "I know you are up to this challenge!"

Adapted from work of Jon Fila Consulting, 2024

Example Prompt: I am a middle school librarian and I'd like you to generate a student-centered 45-minute book tasting activity that focuses on the power of representation in the books we read. My class includes students who are neurodivergent and students who are learning English. Please include an exit ticket. This is an activity I feel passionately about.

Follow-Up Prompt:  Thank you, that's great!  Can you please incorporate the concept of "Windows, Mirrors, and Sliding Glass Doors" into this lesson plan?
